About the opportunity

The Safe and Fair Community Unit (SaFCU) is looking for an Educational, Advisory and Investigations officer to join their team.

SaFCU is the University’s point of contact for all matters related to inappropriate behaviour, including notifications of sexual assault or sexual harassment and general concerns or complaints.

The SaFCU team also work closely with People and Wellbeing, Student Counsellors, and Wellbeing specialist to ensure appropriate holistic supports are in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our community.

As the new Educational, Advisory and Investigations officer, you will be responsible for actively promoting the safety and wellbeing of all members of the UTAS community.

The officer will research, prepare, present, and obtain feedback on educational initiatives, especially in respect to gender based violence across the whole of institution. You will also undertake investigations, respond to general enquiries and requests for advice, work with the SaFCU team to manage financial hardship clams and provide advice and guidance to staff and students on diverse issues arising in an academic environment.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide high level advice, guidance and support to university staff and students in relation to the University’s core values and approach to responding to student safety and wellbeing matters, instances of inappropriate behaviour or conduct and the resolution of complaints.
  • Take a lead role in the development and delivery of training and awareness sessions, promotional and educational resources and facilitated forums to build student and staff awareness on matters relating to SaFCU and University policies and procedures.
  • Act as an ‘authorised officer’, to conduct people-centred, fair and just investigations and assessments into matters of inappropriate behaviour and conduct.
  • Assess, guide and work in collaboration with senior University staff in the resolution of formal student complaints.
  • Efficiently and appropriately manage complex and sensitive processes in line with University Ordinances, Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensure case notes and records are maintained in accordance with quality and standard requirements and University policy. Provide timely and accurate reports as required.

­What we’re looking for:

  •  A tertiary qualification and extensive relevant experience working in a field responding to complex and sensitive people issues or complaints.
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity in meeting the needs of diverse clients.
  • Demonstrated level of understanding of equal opportunity principles, policies, and a commitment to the application in a university context.
  • Experience overseeing complex case management of multiple cases concurrently.
  • A proven ability to use sound judgment to effectively investigate a wide range of often highly sensitive complaints and concerns.
  • Experience in researching, developing, and presenting educative programs and materials.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 8 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $143,448 comprising base salary within the range of $107,829 to $122,605 plus 17% superannuation.
