About the Role 

The Research Systems Officer is responsible for the management of high-quality processes and procedures relating to the University’s research data collection and reporting systems. The position will provide a key contribution to defining the information needs and business requirements for future development of the University’s research information systems.

Research and Innovation Services provides support for the management of research and administers internal and national competitive research grants and projects. It is also responsible for ensuring the responsible and ethical conduct of research and for developing and implementing strategic initiatives to improve the quality of the experience and outcomes for postgraduate research students.

The Research Projects Management Team provides strategic and operational support to the Director/Deputy Director RIS, continuous improvement of systems and processes to support an enterprise-wide approach to the research project lifecycle, business analysis activities and the coordination and provision of expert advice on the research income component of the HERDC specifications.

Core Responsibilities 

  • Provide functional and technical expertise to manage, maintain and enhance the University’s research information system, Research Master and other research related platforms as required
  • Analyse user and reporting requirements and recommend improvements and support the implementation of any changes to the Research Master database and associated reporting
  • System administration for the Research and Innovation Services section of Cognos BI Reporting Hub including user management
  • Provide Cognos developer functions for Research & Innovation Services including report and cube development, publishing and maintenance, as required
  • Provide training and support to Research Master users including actively contributing to the development of training manuals and delivery of training sessions
 
Essential Skills and Experience 
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and/or demonstrated equivalent experience, knowledge and skills
  • Demonstrated high level conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills to define business needs and monitor the integrity and quality of data
  • Experience in the compilation of data from existing and new research data sources to facilitate submissions including demonstrated experience with a range of database software and Structured Query Language (SQL), as well as a high level of competency in standard office software applications
  • Demonstrated understanding of the tools and concepts of continuous quality improvement processes and how they can be applied to the work environment
  • Experience with the provision of system administration support including identification of system problems, system development initiatives and testing of system upgrades
