About the Role

The Research Program Manager role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and customer-focused individual to support the strategic and operational management for a portfolio of research projects, budgets, and stakeholder relationships within the Melbourne School of Population & Global Health (MSPGH). This position offers the chance to work with a team of public health academics and Centre Managers to increase research income and support the growth and success of the School and broader Faculty and University. As an integral member of the professional staff team, the Research Program Manager will have a significant degree of autonomy and the opportunity to provide valuable advice to research group leaders and the academic community.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Efficient management of a suite of internally and externally funded projects within a dynamic and complex environment.
  • Actively engage and provide quality advice, information, and support to academic staff – particularly Unit Heads and key researchers.
  • Support the scoping, development, preparation, and submission of ARC, NHMRC and other research grant applications and monitor contracts.
  • Responsibility for the financial and resource management of a portfolio of research and operating projects, collaborating closely with the Chief Investigators and other academic staff.

Who We Are Looking For

You demonstrate highly developed communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to liaise and negotiate effectively with stakeholders. You should also have strong research, analytical, and computer skills to manage projects and administrative services.

You will also have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience in a large and complex organisation.
  • Experience and relevant skills in research administration, financial and business management, demonstrated in higher education or a similar complex environment.
  • High level organisational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise workloads, work well under pressure, and organise own work and others to meet competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to be adaptive, flexible, collaborative, and accepting of new ideas.
