Under generally unguided direction, and in accordance with the strategic goals of the University, the Research Partnership Development Director (Caring Futures Institute) will have primary responsibility for identifying, developing, and implementing strategic opportunities and potential research partnerships to build the Caring Futures Institute’s research profile.
This position reports to the Director, Research Development and Support and works on a day-to-day basis with the Director of the Caring Futures Institute and senior staff. This position will work collaboratively with the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Research Development and Support team, and the University strategic partnerships team. This position is responsible for developing, leading, and overseeing new business strategies and opportunities with commercial and external industry client. This position will expand the engagement with existing clients for the Flinders University, Caring Futures Institute and more broadly for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Research Partnership Development Director (Caring Futures Institute) is accountable for:

  • Planning and implementation of business plans and strategies to grow the research and other revenues for the Caring Futures Institute. These include enhancing the Institute’s engagement in contract research, research involving industry partnerships, fee-for-service research courses and advisory services.

  • Supporting the strategies of College of Nursing and Health Sciences and Caring Futures Institute to build partnerships and activities that will advance and strengthen the nexus of research, teaching,  practice and policy.

  • Providing high level strategic advice and support for the preparation of high-quality funding proposals, that maximise the generation of funds and contribute to development of capacity and capability within the Institute.

  • Providing sound, authoritative advice to the Director, Research Development and Support and Director, Caring Futures Institute on research investments based on accurate and robust data analysis. 

  • Developing resources and development activities to upskill researchers in commercial/contract research activities, including project and contract management techniques.

  • Identifying and managing the intellectual property, products, outputs and resources generated by the Institute, and ensuring maximum financial returns or significant profile and exposure for public domain outputs.

  • Facilitating opportunities for collaborative research, in conjunction with the Caring Futures Institute Director (or Delegates).

  • Liaising with the University legal advisors regarding contract negotiations with external clients.

  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the role as assigned by the Supervisor, and/or the University

Key Position Capabilities

  • Post-graduate qualifications and relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and/or training.

  • Demonstrated ability to strategically identify and successfully negotiate with decision makers from government agencies, industry bodies and/or organisations with an outcome of financial investment and successful project completion.

  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills, and the ability to successfully collaborate a wide range of people to achieve a shared goal with desirable outcomes.

  • Demonstrated high level ability to facilitate capital projects and partnership projects that lead to excellence in the nexus of research, teaching and practice/policy.

  • Demonstrated leadership, advanced business acumen, strategic thinking, and ability to identify business opportunities through interactions with a range of prospective clients including industry bodies, external research groups or institutes, or government agencies.

  • Demonstrated advanced initiative, high level organisational skills, and the capacity to provide advice in an effective and timely manner.

  • Evidence of high level written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts.

  • Demonstrated advanced ability to evaluate complex situations, determine effective and realistic options and take responsibility for implementing and evaluating these options.

  • Proven advanced ability to analyse, interpret and present complex data and build business cases supported by clear evidence.

  • Understanding of caring industry demand for research and support to improve quality and effectiveness. (Desirable)
