About the opportunity

The Research Officer provides technical knowledge and expertise to support the research and/or clinical trial requirements for the work area. The Research Officer actively contributes to research activities, implementing research protocols, undertaking core aspects of research work, leading ethics applications, managing documentation such as data management plans and contracts, supporting intervention refinement, contributing to site establishment, recruitment, data collection and communication with stakeholders (including consumers).

The Research Officer will initially deliver a project (GuardianAngel peer support program) that is part of the SOLVE-CHD (Solving the long-standing evidence-practice gap associated with cardiac rehabilitation and secondary prevention of coronary heart disease) program of research. They will also be part of Prof Redfern's research team (known as the Engagement and CO-design Research Hub, ECHO) located in the Faculty of Medicine and Health.

SOLVE-CHD is a 5-year-NHMRC Synergy Grant, is made up of a multidisciplinary research team of researchers and clinicians with allied health, nursing, cardiology, public health, health economics and psychology backgrounds. Our goal is to transform post-discharge secondary prevention and reduce the burden of heart disease by decreasing deaths, hospitalisations and costs via a program of work that integrates data, technology, partnerships and capacity building.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • coordinate and run clinical trials with clinical specialists and affiliated researchers/collaborators regarding study progress and outcomes
  • undertake planning and preparation and submission of ethics, governance and contracts etc to support implementation of the project/s
  • Work on varied projects as per funding availability at the supervisors discretion
  • oversee research procedures in accordance with relevant ethics protocols
  • manage the consolidation of data/information for inclusion in Steering Committee meetings and for dissemination to investigators and stakeholders
  • Manage communication between team members and partners in relation to specific project/s

About you

  • has experience running trials and research, ideally in the cardiovascular and/or digital health environment
  • extensive experience in delivering and working on research projects
  • may have (or be working towards) completing further studies such as PhD or have extensive specialist experience in the field of research
  • tertiary qualifications likely with Honours or Masters in appropriate discipline with relevant experience in related field
  • has excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution
  • can work independently and as a team, experienced in collaborating with communities, health partners and professionals and patients
  • has experience in implementing clinical trials governance, preparing submissions for ethics committees and data, analysis and modelling management
  • has experience using standard software programs, ideally including RedCap.
