About the position

The Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society (ARCSHS), in partnership with the Department of Archaeology and History, at La Trobe University are seeking expressions of interest for a Level A or B Research Officer/Fellow to work with us to investigate the scale and impact of LGBTQA+ conversion practices in Australia. The project is funded by an ARC Linkage Project, in partnership with Brave, AGMC, Macquarie University and the Victorian Government.

The Research Officer/Fellow will work as part of the study team, involving researchers and community partners, to analyse data and deliver the findings of a survey of LGBTIQ people’s experiences of religion and faith, with a focus on increasing our understanding of the nature, scope and impact of LGBTQA+ conversion practices in Australia.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Quantitative analysis of the findings from a survey of LGBTQA+ Australians about their experience of religion and faith, including their experiences within religious communities and churches and their experiences of conversion practices or ideology related to sexuality and gender identity
  • Preparation of written outputs of data analysis to support publication outputs and presentations for the research team.
  • Drafting of the final report and any associated journal articles in consultation with project team and community partners.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have;

  • Completion of a PhD in psychology, social-psychology, sociology, social work or other related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting quantitative survey research including, data collection and management, advanced analysis and reporting skills.
  • Advanced skills in a statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, STATA, R).
  • Experience conducting research on sensitive or complex social issues.
