The Opportunity

The Knott Lab, generously funded by Snow Medical and nestled within the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, is at the forefront of developing innovative molecular tools for RNA and DNA biomedicine, including CRISPR-Cas technology.

At the Knott Lab, we're driven by the belief that the future of biotechnology lies within the underexplored genomes of the microbial world. Our research focuses on understanding and harnessing diverse CRISPR systems, novel RNA sensors, and editing machineries to revolutionize biotechnology. From discovery to application, our multidisciplinary team combines metagenomics, bioinformatics, high-throughput screens, biochemistry, structural biology, and engineering to develop the next generation of CRISPR-based biotechnologies and beyond.

We're currently seeking a Research Officer to join our team and contribute to our mission. In this role, you'll play a crucial part in supporting the operations of the Knott Lab, primarily focusing on meta-genomic and meta-transcriptomic field work. From developing operating procedures to DNA/RNA extraction and sequencing library preparation, you'll ensure a compliant and safe research environment while providing high-quality research services. Collaboration is key, as you'll work closely with postdoctoral researchers, research officers, and students to meet research requirements efficiently and effectively.

Reporting directly to the Senior Research Fellow and Lab Head, you'll have the opportunity to plan, implement, and coordinate various research tasks, supervise and train staff where applicable, and stay updated on developments in relevant research areas. Your excellent analytical, technical, and communication skills, coupled with your expertise in molecular biology, will be invaluable in driving our research forward.

If you have a degree in a relevant field, extensive experience, or a combination of both, alongside a passion for discovery science and a drive for excellence, we encourage you to apply.

Diversity is one of our greatest strengths at Monash. We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culturally and linguistically diverse people, people with disabilities, neurodiverse people, and people of all genders, sexualities, and age groups.

Join the pursuit of our purpose to build a better future for ourselves and our communities – #ChangeIt with us.

Monash avidly supports flexible and hybrid working arrangements. We have a range of policies in place enabling staff to combine work and personal commitments. This includes supporting parents .

Your employment is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of all pre-employment and/or background checks required for the role, as determined by the University.

Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to “How to apply for Monash Jobs ”.
