The Opportunity
As the Research Officer in our Kidney Development and Disease laboratory, you will be responsible for providing high-quality research services to support our ongoing operations. Your role will involve performing complex research activities aimed at understanding the genetic and environmental factors contributing to kidney disease and the process of kidney formation.
This will include supporting experiments aimed at profiling disease processes, such as imaging, animal model work, tissue culture studies, and basic molecular biology techniques involving DNA and protein. It is crucial that you maintain a compliant and safe research environment. Working closely with our research staff and students, you will ensure efficient research services in alignment with protocols and standards.
The appointee will have a degree in a relevant field with subsequent relevant experience, or extensive experience with high-level analytical, technical, data analysis and research skills and a demonstrated capacity to develop and implement effective technical and research processes and systems.
Experience in the following is desirable for this Research Officer position:
- Basic molecular biology approaches including DNA (cloning, PCR, genotyping) and protein (Purification, Western blotting, immunostaining) techniques
- Biological imaging and different types of light microscopy as well as tissue culture and histology
- The use of animal models (particularly mice) including colony management, handling and humane experimentation
