 The Opportunity

  • Broad operational role supporting research services across facilities
  • $118,883 - $133,948 (depending on exp.) + 17% super + leave loading
  • Full-time (35 hours week), continuing position

The Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre (MWAC) manages major instrumentation used by researchers for the study of the structure and composition of biological, chemical and physical materials.  Our facilities are housed in custom-built laboratories across UNSW. 

You’ll manage the operations and actively develop and implement practices and procedures to support the research activities of the of the Biological Resources Imaging Lab, the Flow Cytometry Facility and Biospecimen Services within the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre. The position reports to the Head of Preclinical Imaging and Biospecimen Research Facilities and has no direct reports but will help to manage a number of facility users in BRIL.

About the successful applicant:

You have a relevant tertiary qualification and or experience, and can demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Substantial experience in all aspects of the management of major research infrastructure laboratories, equipment and research-users including, usage and maintenance scheduling, user training, and ethics and safety compliance.
  • Working with a range of advanced imaging instruments (MRI, PET, CT, Ultrasound, Optical Imaging), and associated computer systems and applications, including Paravision, Living Image, PMOD, and Vevo Lab.
  • Extensive experience in techniques for supporting preclinical research: anaesthesia, injections catheterisations, minor surgeries, manipulations and health assessments.
  • Preparing and managing relevant compliance documents including animal ethics applications, GTRC applications, Risk Assessments, Safe Work Procedures and radiation safety.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced. Proven ability to influence senior management and stakeholders as appropriate to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Sound influencing and consultation skills and proven ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
