The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced organic or organometallic chemist to join our team working on the discovery of new transition-metal catalysed methods for asymmetric synthesis. Using a combination of advanced chemical synthesis strategies and statistical modelling techniques to accelerate catalyst discovery, this project will investigate novel modes of chemical reactivity that can be harnessed to develop new methods for the synthesis of valuable chiral molecules.
The candidate's responsibilities:
The Research Fellow will be responsible for conducting a range of research activities related to the discovery of new organometallic complexes and catalytic methods for asymmetric synthesis. This may include (i) the design, synthesis and characterization of organometallic complexes and (chiral) organic molecules; and (ii) mechanistic studies using various computational and experimental techniques. Additional responsibilities include writing lab reports and scientific articles, mentoring of PhD students, and presenting research outcomes at national and international conferences.
The candidate's attributes:
The appointee is expected to have a PhD. in organic or organometallic chemistry accompanied by a track record of refereed research publications. The appointee should have advanced practical and theoretical experience in transition-metal catalysis including the ability to independently synthesise organometallic complexes and develop novel metal-catalysed synthetic strategies. Additional experience in mechanistic analysis using computational or experimental methods would be highly beneficial. The appointee is also expected to have well-developed planning and organisational skills and a demonstrated ability to innovatively solve complex problems both independently and as part of a team.
Diversity is one of our greatest strengths at Monash. We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culturally and linguistically diverse people, people with disabilities, neurodiverse people, and people of all genders, sexualities, and age groups.
