The Opportunity
The Cellular Signalling and Human Disease Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to conduct research to understand how obesity and type 2 diabetes influence the development of cancer. A key focus will be on how metabolism affects tumour immunology and the response to immunotherapy.
There is now compelling evidence that obesity is a key factor in the progression of many human malignancies, including breast, endometrial, oesophageal and liver cancers. The project will take advantage of multidisciplinary techniques and utilise both cell-based and animal models to understand the processes by which obesity affects the development of cancer, especially triple-negative breast cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma. In particular, the project will explore the impact on cancer metabolism, the tumour immune landscape and the response to immunotherapy. The Research Fellow will work in an established research team with a track record in research excellence and will be capable of coordinating a multifaceted research program, working both independently and collaboratively in a team.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in cancer biology or immunology with a background in cancer metabolism or tumour immunology, as well as experience with molecular and genomic techniques and the use of murine tumour models.
This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
