About the Job
Life-changing new medical and enabling technologies designed alongside the people who need them will be created by MedTechVic, a ground-breaking initiative by Swinburne University of Technology. Led by Swinburne, and working closely with industry and community partners, MedTechVic will bring people living with disabilities together with world-leading technology and experts in design, digitalisation, health and manufacturing to create innovative tailor-made medical and assistive devices. Swinburne has received a $6.7 million boost from the Victorian Government to fund this first-of-its-kind hub. To support the co-creation of enabling and assistive technologies, the delivery of programs and processes and the development of clinicians with product development skills, Swinburne University of Technology will be building a new facility where this work can be undertaken. There will also be applied research and development projects that will span design, AR/VR, digital manufacturing and clinical activities.

The Research Fellow – Nursing and Allied Health is an important role, which will involve working with other Research Fellows, PhD students, Masters by Research Students and people living with disability to co-design enabling technology solutions to support people living with disability or who are ageing to participate in their everyday lives. The fellow will be an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, exercise physiologist, psychologist, or speech pathologist. Working in a multidisciplinary team, the Research Fellow will add depth and knowledge to the team in relevant areas to the pool of clinicians and researchers. Above all though, the fellow must be comfortable in working with people with disabilities and enabling them to take the lead in the co-design of new products, systems, and processes. About you
To be successful in the role, you will have:
• Undergraduate qualification in Occupational Therapy, Medicine, Physiotherapy, Speech Pathology or similar
• PhD in relevant fields such as Health, Design, Business or similar.
• Competitive track record and recognition for quality research outputs evidenced by publications, the development of new research initiatives, competitive research funding, and/or industry links.
• Research experience in at least one of the following areas: Technology, Disability, Rehabilitation or Ageing
• Experience in developing innovative solutions to address real world problems.

Key Responsibilities
• Working closely with within a team to combine knowledge, provide advice and support and develop original project-based research
• Actively seeking out opportunities for collaborations and opportunities for the translation and/or commercialization of research outcomes
• Supervising student research projects
• Communicating research outcomes through high quality papers/journal articles, delivering seminars, and conference attendance
• Assisting in the development of proposals to complement and expand project activities and resources
