The Opportunity

The School of Mathematics, one of the largest in the Faculty of Science, collaborates with various departments and faculties, and maintains strong links with institutions like CSIRO and the Defence Science and Technology Organisation. The multidisciplinary school boasts active research groups in fields such as discrete mathematics, geometry, applied mathematics, fluid dynamics, and machine learning, and supports extensive undergraduate and postgraduate education. It comprises approximately 60 academic staff, 150 teaching associates, and 120 PhD and Masters students.

The Level A Research Fellow will contribute to the School's research efforts in combinatorics. This role involves working on a project concerning fractional edge decompositions of graphs, addressing well-studied open problems, and exploring related variants and special cases.The project is led by Daniel Horsley (Monash), Darryn Bryant, Barbara Maenhaut (University of Queensland), and Peter Dukes (University of Victoria).

If you hold a Doctoral degree in Mathematics or a closely related field and can demonstrate the below, we look forward to seeing your application.

  • A strong background in edge decomposition of graphs, fractional structures in graphs, or closely related areas
  • The ability to solve complex mathematical problems
  • Analytical and manuscript preparation skills; including a track record of refereed research publications
