About the role:

Located in the Teaching and Learning Laboratory in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, the appointee will conduct research in engineering and computing education on projects specified by the Director of the Laboratory.

You will address questions aligned with supporting engineers and computer scientists to lead successful lives contributing significantly to society. 

Research interests of the Laboratory are:

curriculum development, employability, and inclusion, specifically conceptual and professional development, sustainability, safety, ethics, accountability, student teamwork, empathy, work integrated learning, professional practice, and gender inclusion.

About You:

You will be capable of demonstrating your prior record of achievement in the following:

  • PhD in engineering or computing education, engineering or computing practice, higher education, or a related field
  • research record in a field aligned with the interests of the Laboratory
  •     demonstrated expertise in at least one relevant research methodology
  • innovative, quality research as evidenced by publications in leading journals commensurate with opportunity
  • ability to perform independent research
  • capacity to communicate research concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
  • excellence in analysing data, problem solving and maintaining accurate research records
  • using initiative, working with minimal supervision, and achieving project objectives within timelines
  • written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated by presentation of research results at conferences, internal forums and through manuscript submissions
  • outstanding interpersonal skills, including an ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders (industry and community members; academic, administrative and support staff) in a courteous and effective manner

Additionally, it would be desirable (but not necessary) if you if you also had experience in relation to any of the following:

  • quantitative education research skills
  • computer programming skills
  • supervision of students and/or research assistants
  • submission of grant applications
  • working as an engineer or computing professional in industry
  • actively participating in a research group
