National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction (NCETA)
The Research Fellow, Biostatistics will undertake research with the National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction (NCETA). NCETA is an internationally recognised Research Centre that works as a catalyst for change in the alcohol and other drugs field. A collaborative venture between Flinders University and the Australian Government Department of Health, NCETA is located within the College of Medicine and Public Health and is part of the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI) at Flinders University in South Australia. NCETA is a key national research centre in the alcohol and other drug field. A key focus of the Centre is workforce development (WFD).
The Research Fellow, Biostatistics will coordinate the use of biostatistics in research projects for the National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction (NCETA) under broad direction of the Director and Research Fellows. This will include providing coordination of the biostatistics content on a wide variety of alcohol and other drug projects from conception to completion/publication for our growing team of NCETA researchers.
Duties will include study design/analysis plans and power analyses required to contribute to the attraction of external grants and research contracts and other new projects; biostatistics analyses, contributing to publications as a co-author including drafting components of research outputs (e.g., written description and visualisation of biostatistical analyses) and responding to reviewers requests for biostatistics analyses for publications. The Research Fellow is also accountable for delivering on NCETA research objectives, and helping build the University’s national and international reputation through contributing to high quality publications and research collaborations. The Research Fellow will contribute to the mentoring and training of junior staff and postgraduate students in biostatistics.
Key Position Responsibilities
The Research Fellow, Biostatistics in NCETA is accountable for:
Undertaking high quality biostatistics/study design plans and power analyses required to contribute to the attraction of external grants, and implementation of research contracts and new projects.
Undertaking biostatistical analyses, and contributing to publications, reports and other outputs of NCETA including drafting components of research outputs (e.g., written description and visualisation of biostatistical analyses).
Making a contribution to ethical, high quality and innovative research through contribution to high-quality publications, external research grants and contracts.
Coordinating the use of biostatistics in NCETA’s research, including providing expert content input for submission of applications for external research income.
Assisting the mentoring and development of academic researchers in biostatistics.
Contribute to the mentoring of postgraduate students, with the provision of biostatistics support.
Supporting the development and maintenance of productive strategic local, national and international relationships, collaborations and networks with a range of stakeholders including industry, government and other external organisations.
Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by the Supervisor.
Key Position Capabilities
- Completion of a PhD in statistics or other relevant qualifications; or an equivalent combination of extensive experience and/or education and/or training.
- Demonstrated evidence of a research track record (for career stage) in an area aligned with research strengths in health behaviour research (preferably in alcohol and other drugs) including evidence of high-quality publications.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate biostatistics activities required to support the functioning of a research-intensive unit under minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with the development and maintenance of effective research collaborations within the university and wider community including with industry and other organisations.
- Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and support postgraduate students, researchers and staff of variable experience levels in biostatistics to contribute to research excellence.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver project targets in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish effective relationships with staff, students, and industry nationally and/or internationally.
