About the Role

Joining the esteemed School of Computing and Information Systems within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Melbourne, you'll spearhead independent research efforts, enriching scholarly dialogue by presenting and publishing your findings in prestigious conferences and journals. Your role extends beyond research, as you'll immerse yourself in the vibrant academic community, collaborating with fellow researchers to drive innovation. Additionally, you may have the opportunity to share your expertise through teaching and research supervision tailored to your area of expertise

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to teaching, training, scientific mentoring and supervision of students;

  • Supervise junior research staff in the appointee’s area of expertise;

  • Independently plan and carry out research on the nominated research project and work towards completion of the aims of the project;

  • Develop effective timelines and milestones based on goals of the research program;

Who We Are Looking For

You will be a dynamic candidate with a proven track record of innovative research showcased through scholarly publications. Your ability to work autonomously, prioritise tasks effectively, and communicate research findings both verbally and in writing, coupled with strong interpersonal skills, will make you an ideal fit for this role, allowing you to engage collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

You will also have:

  • A PhD in AI, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, or closely related discipline;

  • Excellent ability in analysing data, problem solving and maintaining accurate research records;

  • Regularly write technical reports on the outputs of the experiments conducted, and maintain accurate and detailed records of all experiments conducted;

  • Participate in preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals;

  • Liaise effectively with collaborators with a variety of internal and external stakeholders;

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
