About This Opportunity 

The Centre for the Business and Economics of Health (CBEH) applies economics and business thinking to inform decisions for better health outcomes. Through priority-led research and thought leadership, CBEH researchers analyse critical issues and influence improvements across the range of settings in which health is produced. The Centre partners with leading health organisations and service providers to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and equity in healthcare systems, and reflects on the broader factors and behaviours that influence health. The purpose of this position is to contribute to research within the EvolveHealth program for health workforce optimisation in CBEH. Under this research focus area, we aim to align workforce capacity and capability to evidence-based needs and to optimise the future health workforce for better health, social, and economic outcomes. You will engage in research to further your expertise and grow the Centre's research profile in this area.

Key responsibilities will include: 

Research

  • Produce quality research outputs consistent with discipline norms by publishing in national and international research journals, other appropriate refereed publications and conference publications, with a lead role in some outputs.

  • Develop and maintain working relationships with our internal and external partners and other stakeholders to facilitate the delivery of current projects and develop future projects.

  • Participate in or contribute as a chief investigator (often in conjunction with more experienced researchers) in applications for competitive research funding to support projects and activities, which includes actively seeking, obtaining, and managing research funding.

  • Work with colleagues and postgraduates in the development of joint research projects and applications for competitive research funding support.

  • Contribute to the transfer of knowledge, technology, and practices to research end users through translation, including commercialisation of UQ intellectual property.

  • Review and draw upon best practice research methodologies.

  • Prepare research publications and progress reports and participate in regular meetings to discuss project objectives, methodology and outcomes.


Teaching

  • Where undergraduate and postgraduate teaching is undertaken, achieve teaching quality as indicated by approved surveys and outcomes for students and improve or innovate where appropriate in response to feedback.

Supervision and Researcher Development

  • Co-supervise and facilitate engagement opportunities for Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students.

  • Effectively lead and develop supervisee performance and conduct (HDRs and research assistants as applicable) by providing feedback, mentorship, and professional development.

Citizenship and Service

  • Show leadership of self and others through mentoring, collaboration, and active participation in priority activities for the Centre.

  • Effectively and efficiently manage internal service roles and administrative processes as required, including participation in decision-making and service on relevant committees.

  • Actively pursue and develop external links and partnerships by cultivating relationships with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.

This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position for up to 3 years at Academic level B. The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $108,201.83 - $128,201.75, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $126,595.47 - $149,996.05 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

About You  

  • Completion of a postdoctoral qualification in health economics or applied economics

  • Demonstrated ability in applied micro econometrics

  • Research interest in healthcare, labour economics and /or industrial organisation

  • A developing reputation and track record of publishing in reputable refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

  • Evidence of seeking external research funding

  • Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.
