Deakin’s Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN) is a world-leading research institute committed to improving health and quality of life. We're working to reduce the rates of chronic disease through nutrition and physical activity research excellence while fostering the next generation of research stars.

The Research Fellow-Digital Health is a new 3-year appointment within IPAN to advise and work on projects with IPAN academics and to strengthen research connections with the Applied Artificial Intelligence Institute (A2 I2 ). This position will be located within IPAN but will be co-located approximately 1-2 days per week at A2 I2 , working under direction from the Head of Translational Research.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Triage digital health needs at IPAN
  • Advise IPAN staff on the design and development of digital health solutions
  • Participate in relevant team meetings at IPAN and A2 I2
  • Involvement in key research projects in IPAN with digital health needs
  • Project manage specific digital health aspects within projects as needed
  • Engage with Deakin University staff to advance IPAN’s digital health needs
  • Engage with internal and external app developers as needed
  • Publish high quality research in national journals of high repute
  • Contribute to and participate in high quality grant applications for funding
  • Contribute to the achievement of Deakin’s strategic goals in research, engagement and innovation
  • Undertake professional and administrative roles and responsibilities that enhance the discipline and Deakin
  • Develop strong relationships with research, community, industry and government for enhanced research outcomes

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline and/or advanced qualifications and experience in the relevant discipline area (digital health, computer science, engineering or health)
  • Understanding of full stack development with an in-depth understanding of the front and back of user interface
  • Project management experience, particularly with digital programs/projects
  • Nationally recognised research reputation underpinned by a track record with peer-reviewed publications
  • Success in obtaining and timely completion of external research grants
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues
  • Undergraduate degree in computer science or related field *desirable
  • Has run and dealt with complex systems to MVP stage (TRL5) *desirable
  • Knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and contemporary issues *desirable
