Centre for Future Materials (CFM) has gained a reputation for pioneering research and development in engineered fibre composites. CFM prioritises R&D in advanced composite manufacturing, civil composites, smart materials, and geopolymer & concrete. CFM operates a dedicated industry test service for more than 1000 business clients across multiple sectors both nationally and internationally. The testing services, in compliance with national and international standards, ranges from materials characterisation, polymer analysis, mechanical testing and large-scale structural testing.

CFM at UniSQ is seeking a Research Fellow with a strong knowledge and skill in coal material characterization, chemical engineering design and surface chemistry in the porous media to join the Team! To find out more about this exciting role, please refer to the position description.

What you'll do

Focusing on the manufacture of polymer-free lignite-derived slow-release fertiliser, the successful candidate will be an integral part of our research team by collaborating closely with industry partners. In doing so, you will be responsible for:

  • Working with the research team and industry partners and produce high-quality outputs in an ethical and responsible manner including quality research publications, generation of research funding and participation in research commercialisation, within the area of coal materials, carbon surface chemistry and process engineering.
  • Contribute to the generation of research income and create social and economic benefits, including submission of project applications to funding bodies within the area of coal chemistry and chemical engineering.
  • Initiate, develop and lead research projects and develop collaborative partnerships with other research organisations, funding bodies and industry stakeholders.
  • Support a focus on affiliation/active collaboration between Institute/Centre and School and contribute to the development of research teams.
  • Support HDR students to successful and timely completion, including co-supervision of research Master’s degree students/honours projects as appropriate.

What will help you succeed

  • It is essential you hold an honours degree or higher qualification in the relevant discipline or equivalent tertiary qualifications (progression towards completion of a Doctoral qualification is highly regarded).
  • Professional experience, or demonstrated deep knowledge, in a relevant discipline: Chemical Engineering and Chemistry.
  • Expertise on material characterisations including coal analysis, NPK element analysis, XRD, ICP et al with research experience in coal or carbon materials and their features in fertiliser carriers as well as ion exchange experience is strongly desired.
  • Strong knowledge and skill in coal chemistry and chemical reaction and will be responsible for synthesis, characterisation and performance evaluation of the coal-based slow-release fertiliser.

Salary: Total remuneration range $88,917 to $119,286 pa (includes salary range of $75,130 to $100,791 pa, employer super contributions of 17% and annual leave loading)
