Defence Trailblazer are working with Industry Partner, SRC Aus to recruit a Research Fellow Level B. The position will be located at The University of Adelaide.

Traditional Electronic Warfare (EW) relies on descriptors for classification of detected radio frequency transmitters. The generation of these descriptors require a panoply of techniques, mixed with accumulated experience, resulting in an ad hoc technology stack. Effective as these techniques have been in the past, they are vulnerable to a proliferation of new technology and tactics in the EW search space, as new modes of operations of radio frequency equipment emerge in increasingly complex, congested and contested spectral environments. With recent advances in machine learning across multiple fields, the time is ripe for a thorough re-examination of the signal sensing, processing and information generation techniques underpinning EW.

The Project will combine machine learning software and novel sensor hardware to develop the next generation techniques in EW that is small, lightweight and capable to processing multi-domain in multi-discipline signals in contested, and complex EW environments.

Reporting to Theme Lead the successful candidate will have excellent communication skills to work with relevant academics, researchers and students across UoA and UNSW.

To be successful you will need:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in one or more of: electronic warfare, radars, sensors, telecommunications, machine learning.
  • Demonstrated strong programming skill in Python, MATLAB or equivalent.
  • Possess strong analytical skills and ability to formulate novel approaches to problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and conduct experimental trials and process data arising.
  • Experience or demonstrated capability in working with industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification preferably at a postgraduate level with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • The successful candidate may be required to hold or attain an Australian government security clearance.
