About the opportunity
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Lung Imaging to develop methods and clinical trials for the functional lung imaging applications at the ACRF Image X Institute , which is embedded within the Faculty of Medicine and Health.
Using software to map the functioning of the lung from medical images, the research team, led by Professor Ricky O’Brien , are working towards clinical implementation in an academic, clinical and industry partnership funded by an NHMRC Development grant.
The incumbent will be based at South Eveleigh (formerly Australian Technology Park) and spend time at Royal North Shore Hospital
Your key responsibilities will be to:
Participate in a wide-ranging and multi-disciplinary research program funded by NHMRC grants
use CT images from the radiotherapy planning process to produce 3D maps to identify which parts of the lung are functioning well or poorly
aid in the development of new treatment ideas and be involved in clinical trials for the assessment of lung function in radiotherapy and cancer treatments
engage in a global scientific network working closely with industry to develop new products that improve our ability to image and treat human disease
lead and be part of high impact research, author highly cited publications and attend international conferences.
About you
Awarded or near completed Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (Medical Physics, Science, Computer Science or Engineering)
demonstrated experience or knowledge in the following:
working with a variety of experts in different fields (e.g. radiation oncologists, radiation therapists, physicists, engineers, clinicians etc).
collaborating with clinical and/or industry partners in the radiotherapy or medical imaging domain.
working with PET, X-ray equipment, linear accelerators or other scientific/medical devices
a publication track record that places emphasis on quality publications and/or experiences with clinical trial protocol development.
demonstrated scientific creativity and innovation/discovery
outstanding interpersonal and communication skills in a team environment.
