    • Base Salary from $83,454- $140,586+ 17% superannuation (appointment depending on experience and higher degree qualifications)

    This is a unique opportunity for a Research Associate or Research Fellow to contribute to important research focusing on improving infectious diseases and immunisation programs across the Asia-Pacific region and designing methods to improve disease surveillance, emergency responses and immunisation programs in these regions. The role will be embedded in the Infectious Diseases, Immunisation and Emergencies Group working with Associate Professor Meru Sheel and her team.

    Your key responsibilities will be to:

    Research Associate (Academic - Level A):

    • collaborate with the Chief Investigator to develop research project plans and assist in development of research objectives and grants

    • provide deep technical knowledge and project management support to the Chief Investigator and collaborate with academic and research professionals to support the group research

    • actively lead and contribute to research activities, designing research protocols, undertaking critical aspects of research work including formation of analysis and key findings

    • ensure accurate collation of research data, draw insights and analyse, report information from the research undertaken

    • facilitate effective communication and good working relationships amongst key stakeholder groups and team members

    • supervise and support student researchers.

    Additional responsibilities for Research Fellow (Academic - Level B):

    • apply and refine expertise in research methodologies

    • undertake original research (either independently or as part of a team) within field or area of expertise

    • contributes and coordinates to the research and administration activities of the discipline

    • assist with future grant applications and supervision of PhD students.

    About you

    NOTE: This position will involve domestic and international travel for meetings and field work and candidates must have a valid passport and be willing to undertake travel

    For Research Associate (Academic-Level A)

    • 2 to 5 years of experience as Research Associate or equivalent in the field of Infectious diseases and epidemiology. Candidates with applied epidemiology skills are encouraged

    • experience/background in immunisation, surveillance and outbreak response, and/ or global health would be highly desirable

    • competency in mixed-method research is desirable

    • project management experience in a research environment

    • experience in field-based research is desirable

    • demonstrated experience working across multidisciplinary teams and ability to build effective relations with colleagues and clients

    • scientific writing experience, able to facilitate, review and write for journals and grant applications

    • excellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines and achieve required outcomes

    • competency with Statistical Software STATA and/or R Studio or similar

    • have a Master of Public Health or equivalent degree (epidemiology, biostatistics, etc)

    • MAE (Masters in Philosophy of Applied Epidemiology) graduates are encouraged to apply

    • Part time PhD students close to submission of PhD are encouraged to apply

    • ability to supervise Masters and Honors Students.

    For Level B (In addition to the above)

    • PhD in medicine and/ or health with a focus on infectious diseases or applied epidemiology. Alternatively equivalent work experience in public health

    • a developing research profile evidenced by original, high-quality and independent research in the field or area of expertise

    • demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively across a range of media and forums

    • have experience of writing and submitting grants

    • ability to supervise Masters and PhD Students.
