  • Commencement Salary: $90,451 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)


About the Role

Working within the Centre for Cancer Biology, as the Research Associate you will contribute to grant-funded research under the broad direction of the Head: Tissue Architecture and Organ Function Laboratory to achieve defined objectives and test stated hypotheses.

The project involves using artificial intelligence, patient-derived organoids and analysis of tumour biopsies, to identify new molecular targets that can lead to the design and development of new clinical trials for glioblastoma.

We have the following positions available, commencing May 2022:

  • One full-time, twelve (12) month fixed term contract
  • One full-time, two (2) year fixed term contract

About Centre for Cancer Biology (CCB)

The CCB is an alliance between the University of South Australia and CALHN and is co-located with other cancer-focussed researchers within a purpose-built building in Adelaide’s Biotech and Medical Precinct. The CCB studies the fundamental causes of cancer in order to find new ways to prevent and treat the disease and is a recognised hub for innovative science leading to breakthrough therapies.

Core Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the planning of research by participating in planning sessions, reviewing relevant literature and other sources of information, and offering new ideas on research directions
  • Actively participate in the production of data with limited freedom to explore possible new methods and directions
  • Maintain daily comprehensive records of work performed and results of studies
  • Contribute to the dissemination of new knowledge by attending meetings, seminars, and conferences
  • Compliance with human ethics, animal ethics, privacy and other appropriate guideline
  • Maintain confidentiality of research proposals and research findings

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Postgraduate qualification in cell biology and neuroscience or a related discipline
  • Experience with the culture and manipulation of human cell lines, iPSC, immunofluorescence, analysis of tissue section, whole organoid imaging and bioinformatics skills
  • Demonstrated participation in relevant areas of research and knowledge of literature involved in, and laboratory procedures relevant to, the origin and causes of brain cancer heterogeneity and the contribution of tumour microenvironment to the response of tumour cells to therapy
  • Demonstrated competency in recording, analysing, presenting, and disseminating research to stakeholders
