Cancer Research, Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute
Under general direction of the Professor the Research Associate will work independently on a research project funded by the Australia Research Council (ARC) on nutrient control of cancer development.
The project will examine a key nutrient sensing enzyme and its role in driving cell proliferation within the Environmental Control of Cell Growth and Cell Division laboratory at the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer (FCIC)/Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI) Cancer Research.
Key Position Responsibilities
The Research Associate is accountable for:
Undertaking a variety of techniques including fission yeast cell biology and human cell physiology based technique: including molecular biology, biochemistry and yeast genetics.
Prioritising, coordinating and monitoring workflow and maintaining accurate written records of all experiments undertaken.
Collaborating within the research team as well as with external collaborators of the laboratory.
Under general supervision, working independently within their project, managing significant operations without supervisor input, as well as meeting defined deadlines within the project.
Presenting research results to laboratory meetings and participate in the general activities of the department. Write relevant reports and research publications
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationship with supervisor and junior members of the research team which they will supervise.
Participating in the general activities of the college, including regular seminars and general laboratory maintenance tasks.
Assisting with the supervision of junior members of the research team.
Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.
Key Position Capabilities
Completion of a doctorate degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience and/or education and/or training.
Demonstrated experience with molecular biology and biochemistry techniques and Cell biology.
Demonstrated high standard of laboratory skills.
Excellent organisational skills including the ability to prioritise work, meet competing deadlines, pay attention to detail and manage a varied workload.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, be pro-active and manage tasks within timeframes.
Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills and good interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of genetics.
Knowledge of cell signalling, cell biology and cell physiology.
Demonstrated experience with mammalian tissue cultures.
Knowledge of yeast genetics and CRISPR/cas9 technology (Desirable).
