  • Salary: $93,165 - $99,759 (pro rata) per annum (plus 17% superannuation)


About the Role 

The Research Associate will contribute to the research efforts of UniSA STEM and will undertake research as an ‘Urban Water Fellow’ with the NHMRC-funded Healthy Environments and Lives (HEAL) network. HEAL is a national consortium of University, government agency and NGO members seeking to drive improvements to human health in the context of ongoing environmental change, through high quality research with strong translation into policy and practice.

Core Responsibilities  

  • Undertake research under limited supervision to achieve project grant outcomes 
  • Design and perform a range of experiments including appropriate controls to achieve planned research outcomes 
  • Prepare or contribute to the preparation of refereed journal publications, conference and seminar papers arising from the research 
  • Active involvement in professional activities including, subject to the availability of funds, attendance at conferences, and seminars 
  • Contribute to the teaching activities of the Unit, including the development of research-related material for teaching purposes 

Essential Skills and Experience  
  • A doctorate in environmental microbiology, molecular microbial ecology, environmental health, ecotoxicology, freshwater ecology or a related discipline 
  • Demonstrated experimental skills and techniques relevant to environmental microbiology, with demonstrated experience with aseptic technique 
  • High-quality research output commensurate with the length of research career, published and presented in appropriate forums 
  • Excellent communication skills demonstrated through written work and effective liaison with external partners, colleagues and students 
  • Ability to plan and execute testing and research with stakeholders, working independently and as part of a research team
