An exciting opportunity has become available for a Research Associate (Level A) to join the UNSW Institute for Cyber Security (IFCYBER). The UNSW Institute for Cyber Security (IFCYBER) was launched in 2021 and spans both the Canberra and Sydney campuses with its hub is at UNSW Canberra. We are a growing team of over 100 members carrying out cutting edge multidisciplinary research in cyber security. This position would be based at the Canberra Campus.

Examples of psychological/social science research the candidate might be interested includes identifying and preventing extremism and mis/disinformation, trolling, insider threat, fraud, cyber campaigns, and education. The Institute also runs a highly successful professional education programme. The successful candidate will be involved in research as well as creating and delivering a short professional education courses. We are especially interested in someone who can create and deliver a short professional education course on how to run a cyber security campaign.

Under the direction of the Director, the Research Associate will be involved in grant writing and the publication in high impact journals and other appropriate publications. They would have the opportunity to be mentored and be part of our cyber security community. In addition, 30% of their role would be developing and delivering professional education courses run by the Institute. They would also provide admin support to the Institute. As a member of the UNSW Institute for Cyber Security (IFCYBER), you’ll be a team member contributing to team initiatives and promoting productive working relationships within the Faculty, University and wider stakeholders.

Salary:                  Level A: 78,890 – $ 105,185 plus 17% Superannuation
Term:                     Full Time, Fixed-Term (3 years)

 About the Successful Applicant

To be successful in this role you will:            

  • Will hold a PhD in Psychology or related disciplines with strong performance in research, in the area of cyber security.
  • Have excellent communication skills including publishing in well-regarded journals and the ability to develop and write successful grant proposals.
  • Have excellent research skills in the area of cyber security.
  • Hold excellent teaching abilities including the development and delivery of course materials, ability to develop and write successful grant proposals.
  • Work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
