Your new role

Curtin University is seeking a Research Associate (post- PhD) in the discipline of Sustainable Engineering, based at our Bentley campus in Perth, Western Australia.

The Research associate will work closely with the various programs of the HILT CRC focusing on Heavy industry carbon management in Australia including the cement/lime, iron ore/green steel and the alumina/aluminium industries. The role will be involved in a variety of desktop-based research activities investigating heavy industry low carbon performance, roadmaps and carbon and environmental stewardship programs. Experience in sustainability assessment research and or carbon management related research is essential to this role.

Modern sustainability management is a multi-faceted challenge for managers and professionals that stretches across many domains. The sustainability management research and teaching in the Sustainability Engineering Group (SEG) at Curtin involves an industrial ecology approach which focuses on the interface between industrial production and the many sustainability issues that are affected by it. You will work with the support and guidance of senior staff and develop a research program and deliver research outputs with increasing degrees of autonomy.

Previous work experience in this area including engagement with sustainability focused industry research programs will be favourably reviewed as the position requires an understanding of Australian government and policy, Australian industry response to carbon management and the international carbon management environment.

Duties of your role will include:
  • Desk based/lab-based research outputs
  • Participate in applications for competitive funding
  • Disseminate research findings through seminars, workshops, and conferences
  • Publish/exhibit in high quality journals/outlets (often in collaboration with colleagues) in manner consistent with disciplinary practice
  • Undertake principal supervision of Honours and research masters, and co-supervision of research doctoral supervision where appropriate
  • Undertake administrative functions associated with research activities
  • Participate in the delivery of teaching and research led educational programs
  • Foster and promote relationships with professional bodies, industry and affiliated associations, government departments, and the wider community

Only applicants with work experience and an academic research background in applied sustainable engineering related research, industrial ecology research and or applied sustainability management related research are encouraged to apply.
