  • Based in UniSA Future Industries Institute at the Mawson Lakes campus
  • Full-time, three-year fixed term contract
  • Commencing Salary: $96,929 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)

About the Role

You will contribute to the research efforts of the Future Industries Institute, in particular you will undertake research investigating the chemistry and plant availability of a novel potassium fertiliser in soils in collaboration with the University of Queensland. This project will use a wide range of laboratory and glasshouse experiment in conjunction with advanced spectroscopic methods to understand the reaction of fertilisers in wide range of soils.

Core Responsibilities 

  • Undertake research under limited supervision to achieve project grant outcomes; i.e. conduct laboratory and glasshouse experiments that study fertiliser availability and transformations in diverse soil types
  • Prepare or contribute to the preparation of refereed journal publications, conference and seminar papers arising from the research
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports to fulfill contractual obligations
  • Provide advice and contribute to the supervision of post graduate students in the appointee’s area of expertise
  • Undertake administrative duties associated with relevant research projects, as required from time to time
  • Active involvement in professional activities including, subject to the availability of funds, attendance at conferences, and seminars

Essential Skills and Experience 

  • A PhD with a focus on soil science
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in experimentation in agricultural/environmental chemistry, soil fertility and plant nutrition and supporting analytical techniques
  • Evidence of high quality research output commensurate with the length of research career, which is published and presented in appropriate forums
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills demonstrated through written work such as research reports, research publications and educational materials, and through effective liaison with external partners, colleagues and students
  • Ability to plan and execute testing and research with stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a research team
