About the Role
We are looking for a Research Assistant to join our dynamic team and contribute to key project outcomes. Reporting into and working closely with the project lead, you will contribute to the success of our milestones while working independently with limited supervision as well as collaboratively to undertaking various project-related tasks. You will collaborate with project staff to manage data, perform analysis, assist with report writing and participate in project meetings.

There may be additional opportunities that arise from this project and the Research Assistant will be asked to also support this work.

This role is primarily located in the Dookie campus of the University of Melbourne, however, as the Faculty of Science is located over several metropolitan and regional campuses, the position may be required to travel to, or work from, other campuses as required.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in project activities/research and deliver against project objectives to meet project milestones and reporting schedule
  • Undertaking project activities and research under supervision and assisting in the publication arising from project work in peer reviewed journals, articles, field days and workshops to industry and lay audiences
  • Assisting with collating and validating research data for the project work, as well as organisation of project field days at partner country locations

Who We Are Looking For
Our ideal candidate is able to demonstrate experience in project management support, data analysis, and research skills. They have exceptional time management and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet project deadlines, and a proven ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team to achieve project objectives and milestones.

You will also have:

  • An awarded degree in an Agriculture discipline
  • Strong knowledge and expertise in data collation, analysis and interpretation.
  • Well-developed research skills such as the ability to conduct desktop analysis, literature reviews and knowledge of general statistics methods, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, research design such as field experimentation, implementation and report writing.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external project partners and members including industry bodies within a diverse work environment.

This position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check to ensure the University provides a safe environment for everyone.
