Research Assistant – The Kirby Institute

  • Employment Type: Part-time (14 hours per week/0.4 FTE)
  • Duration: 12 month fixed term contract
  • Remuneration: $82,818, - $93,711 (Full time equivalent, salary will be pro-rata) + 17% Super and leave loading
  • Location: Kensington, NSW (Hybrid working, work from home and from UNSW Sydney campus)

Why Your Role Matters:

As a Research Assistant, you will support a nation-wide surveillance and research network called ACCESS (The Australian Collaboration for Coordinated Enhanced Sentinel Surveillance) involving collaboration with over 120 sexual health-related services in every State and Territory. ACCESS uses routinely collected and de-identified data to monitor blood borne viruses and sexually transmissible infections across Australia. You will provide administrative support to the coordinating investigator, assisting with ethics, governance, reporting, and developing and maintaining relationships with sites. Over time, this role may include assistance with data management and analysis tasks.

The role of Research Assistant reports to the Senior Lecturer and has no direct reports.

Who You Are:

  • Previous experience of working on research projects in public health, epidemiology, biomedical discipline, or similar relevant field
  • Previous experience with research ethics and governance including preparation of applications for ethical and governance approval.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a high-pressure environment with exceptional time management skills and proven capacity to organise and maintain multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated high level written communications addressing a range of audiences and settings, including preparation of reports, manuscripts, and other documents.
  • Strong skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and willingness to learn new skills including programming, website maintenance, and software for statistics and data science (e.g. STATA, TABLEAU)
  • Strong skills in document management, time management, systems improvement, and problem-solving, with excellent attention to detail
  • Skills in data management and analysis are assets.
  • Skills in technology and IT are assets.
