About The Position 


 


The Research Assistant will collaborate with research teams and partnerships within the School and Research Institutes, aligning their efforts with the University's research strategy. This role involves undertaking impactful team research in the field of satellite and wireless communications, contributing significantly to the expansion of knowledge in their discipline at a national level.

The primary responsibilities include planning, developing, and engaging in high-quality research projects that align with the University's research focus areas. The Research Assistant will demonstrate a track record of producing high-quality research outputs in satellite and wireless communications, showcasing expertise in hands-on design and implementation of communication systems using software-defined radios. Proficiency in tools such as Matlab, Python, or GNU Radio is essential.

The role requires an in-depth understanding of wireless communication systems, encompassing areas like digital modulation, OFDM, radio channel impairments, radio interference, and related signal processing techniques. Preferred knowledge in applying machine learning techniques for wireless communication is desirable. Successful candidates will exhibit proven collaboration skills, a commitment to achieving project goals, and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills suitable for engaging with internal and external stakeholders. The Research Assistant will actively embed their research expertise into the School's life by developing productive research networks across RMIT and with local and national partners. 


 


 


To be successful in this position, you’ll have:  


 


  • Demonstrated track record and recognition for producing high-quality research outputs in the field of satellite and wireless communications, as evidenced by a strong publication record and active engagement with external stakeholders. 

  • Proficiency in hands-on design and implementation of communication systems using software-defined radios, with experience in utilizing tools such as Matlab, Python, or GNU Radio. 

  • In-depth understanding of wireless communication systems, encompassing areas such as digital modulation, OFDM, radio channel impairments, radio interference, and related signal processing techniques. 

  • Preferred knowledge and experience in the application of machine learning techniques for wireless communication, supported by relevant research contributions. 

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and with colleagues, demonstrating a strong commitment to achieving project goals. 

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills suitable for engaging with external stakeholders, internal staff, industry professionals, emphasizing a strong dedication to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration. 

  • Mandatory: PhD or equivalent in the relevant field
