  • Full-time, fixed term contract until 31 December 2022 based in the Clinical and Health Sciences Unit at the City West campus
  • Commencement Salary: $72,218 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)


About the Role

The Research Assistant will contribute to grant-funded research under the direction of the Professor of Medicinal Chemistry in order to achieve defined objectives and test stated hypotheses.

Core Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the planning of research by participating in planning sessions, reviewing relevant literature and other sources of information, undertaking pilot studies and assisting with the drafting of proposals and research grant applications
  • Contribute to the execution of research by maintaining daily comprehensive records of work performed and results of studies, as well as assessing the requirements for laboratory consumables and other appropriate resources
  • Contribute to the dissemination of new knowledge by assembling data for industrial reports, scientific papers, conference abstracts and grant applications
  • Contribute to the safe and ethical working environment

Essential Skills and Experience
  • A postgraduate qualification in cell biology, pharmacology, and drug discovery-related disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience in cancer cell biology, animal pharmacology, and knowledge of laboratory procedures relevant to the research program, specifically, evaluation of compounds targeting selected protein kinases
  • Demonstrated experience in the recording, analysis of, presenting and communicating research results
  • Knowledge of animal ethics guidelines, biosafety requirements and procedures and/or experience in the safe handling of potentially biological hazards, including but not limited to (human and animal) blood, plasma and tissues
  • High-level oral and written communication skills
