Salary: Level A – $80,258 - $108,906 p.a (pro rata for part-time) plus 17% super

About the Role

The role, supported by The Advanced Genomics Collaboration (TAGC) Innovation Fund, contributes to the University of Melbourne's partnership with Illumina, a global genomics leader. It involves conducting research in genomics, particularly focusing on experimental techniques like DNA and RNA extraction, and preparing materials for presentation and publication. The position offers training and autonomy for independent project management within a cohesive cancer research team, suited for individuals aspiring for careers in biomedical science or health research.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Participate in research independently and as a member of a research team
  • Contribute to data collection and analysis, using specialised programs for qualitative/quantitative data assessment.
  • Identify sources of funding to support individual or collaborative projects, relating to teaching, research and engagement practice in the discipline

Who We Are Looking For

The successful candidate should possess a background in molecular biology or biomedical science with a keen interest in cancer genetics. They must demonstrate a strong commitment to academic advancement, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a large team.

You will also have:

  • Honours/Masters degree in molecular biology/ biomedical science with an interest in cancer genetics
  • Demonstrated ability to apply research methodologies and quantitative/qualitative data analysis
  • Strong evidence of ability and desire to build an academic career trajectory
