About the University of Melbourne

An integral component of the University of Melbourne’s International strategy has been the development of two-or-three-person offshore offices in countries from which the University draws large numbers of international students.

About the Offshore Office
Currently the University has offices in China (Beijing and Shanghai), India (Delhi), Singapore, Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), North America and Indonesia (Jakarta). The offshore office staff are primarily focused on delivering student recruitment plans and are part of the University’s Student Recruitment team within Student and Scholarly Services.

About the Role
Thisis a full-time, fixed term position based in Bangalore or Chennai for 3 years, with the possibility of an extension. As the Relationship Engagement Manager, your role will involve building and maintaining a prominent and distinguished profile for the University of Melbourne in India.

You will be required to promote the University, with key influencers and the public in India, as an excellent and eminent research and higher education institution. You will focus on building relations with relevant private sector organisations, higher education institutions, Schools and other academic organisations, and relevant Indian Government departments and identify opportunities for broader partnerships and associations.

The position is based in India and the successful applicant will be employed through a subsidiary of the University of Melbourne (Australia India Institute Private Limited). The position is embedded in the University’s team in India and reports directly to the Country Manager (India).

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Work with the University’s Future Students team to deliver student recruitment outcomes
  • Facilitate introductions and support relationships with alumni in country and leverage these for the benefit of current and future students
  • Plan and deliver delegation visits for senior University staff, including in the development of in-country programs and provide direct support during the visits
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships across a range of university internal stakeholders.
  • Actively build and maintain strong and effective relationships with external stakeholders
  • Contribute to the creation of in-country media plans and communication strategies across research, academic and executive policy areas of the University

About You
You will be a dynamic, motivated individual with the highest order communication, organisational and interpersonal skills. You will also bring a sophisticated understanding of the structural and organisational complexities of the education sector in India, an appreciation of the prevailing cultural mores, habits and beliefs in India, as well as excellent English language skills.

Ideally, you will further have:

  • Minimum 4-5 years of experience in an education related sector and in a public-engagement or student recruitment/and/or marketing role
  • Significant understanding of the organisational structures of the education sector in India and of the cultural mind-sets relating to education and industry engagement in India
  • Demonstrated experience in public dealing roles including with Schools, Universities, industries, and education agents
  • Previous experience in student recruitment within a tertiary education context
  • Word-processing, spreadsheet, and data management skills, including working with digital customer relationship management systems
