About the Role


In collaboration with the Clinical Academic Lead: Horizon Hospital and Health Service, Program Directors, Clinical Midwife/Nurses and Course Coordinators, this position is responsible for providing clinical support to the Academic Unit’s Horizon Hospital and Health Service (HHHS), in the conduct of simulated / situational clinical learning for students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate programs primarily to the Midwifery program, as well as supporting the Nursing Program as required.


Drawing upon your clinical expertise, you will work in collaboration with HHHS staff and the academic teaching teams, assessing student performance in alignment with course objectives and competency standards in the simulated HHHS environment.

The Horizon Hospital and Health Service (HHHS) provides students with an authentic simulated healthcare environment to support a range of learning and simulated client care experiences to develop the skills required for contemporary evidence-based midwifery and nursing care. 


Core Responsibilities

  • In liaison with the Clinical Midwife and Clinical Nurses, contribute to the development and ongoing review of clinical scenarios for Midwifery and Nursing students, this will include preparation of case notes and other clinical documentation
  • Participate in teaching clinical skills within the simulated HHHS environment to meet the teaching and learning objectives of the Academic Unit’s programs in Midwifery and Nursing 
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement strategies within the HHHS to maximise student engagement by sharing up-to-date and relevant knowledge and offering suggestions and ideas for improvements
  • Prepare, maintain and utilise simulation and biomedical healthcare equipment, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Health Safety and Injury Management (HS&IM) guidelines 
  • Provide feedback regarding students’ competency in the clinical units, ability to adhere to safe operating procedures and utilising clinical assessment tool

Essential Skills and Experience 
  • Bachelor of Nursing/Midwifery and a postgraduate qualification in Nursing/Midwifery
  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Midwife and Registered Nurse
  • Significant post registration experience, along with recent clinical experience ideally within a midwifery and nursing setting
  • Experience providing clinical leadership, supervising staff and working with university students
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards, along with high level problem solving and analytical skills to interpret information and make specific recommendations to senior staff
  • Commitment to outstanding customer service with demonstrated cultural sensitivity
