The Office of Strategic Project, Implementation, and Improvement provides organisational leadership in portfolio, program, and project management. The fundamental focus of the office is to provide leadership for project investment and to drive transformational outcomes through improving the effectiveness and efficiency of how the University operates. These changes are aimed at addressing the challenges being experienced by the University through increased globalisation, advances in technology, increasing competition and changes to funding models.


The Role

This position provides senior leadership to the Division and also to the broader University in the disciplines of planning, projects, assurance, and risk management. Leadership of operational planning for the University includes management of the overall operational planning process and the related performance reporting. Leadership of project planning focuses on the development and management of the project pipeline and includes facilitation of business case development and assurance. The role leads and manages project and program assurance and risk management across the portfolio and is responsible for ensuring consistency is maintained through use of approved portfolio management methodology and associated processes. The position monitors Project and Program Managers and the projects under their scope, driving prioritisation, escalating risks, issues, and changes, while interfacing with other Divisional teams. This position works closely with the Project, Program and Portfolio Managers to ensure initiatives and projects are aligned with the University and Divisional strategy and priorities. The function also includes overview of project reporting to ensure visibility and transparency of project progress and performance.


The Person:

You will be a degree / postgraduate qualified with a proven record of accomplishment in large complex operating environments. This experience will include PMO management incorporating prioritisation, reporting, risk management and benefits management. In conjunction with the above you will also have achieved successful outcomes in all elements of project management including complex schedule management, budget management, resource planning and you will possess exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills. You will be resilient in your approach to outcomes, and you will have a hunger to learn and improve. You will understand that a true PMO professional will operate best in a transformational environment and seek continuous improvement opportunities.
