The Pastures and Climate Extremes (PACE) facility provides the infrastructure to undertake climate manipulation experiments exposing herbaceous plant species to simulated future climates under field conditions. The facility will be used in a new project evaluating the performance of pasture legumes and mixed pasture swards to winter/spring drought, in combination with elevated temperatures. The project is funded by Meat and Livestock Australia, with the aim of testing new pasture species combinations under contrasting climate conditions and examining productivity and nutritional responses to drought and warming.

The Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Officer, PACE to play a key role in the effective running and functioning of the climate manipulation experiment by autonomously performing necessary crop maintenance and facility maintenance activities and contributing to the timely collection of data for project milestones.

In this position you will work as a project team member to ensure the appropriate establishment and maintenance of pasture swards and the efficacy of experimental treatments. You will have responsibility for downloading, analysing and curating data from environmental sensors; contributing to routine harvesting activities and crop maintenance/fertiliser application; contributing to milestone reports; site maintenance, including frequent checks of automated data streams; contributing to facility tours and outreach activities as required.

This position will be based on the Hawkesbury Campus and is being offered as a part-time (0.8 FTE), fixed-term position for 3 years.

Remuneration Package: HEW Level 6 $80,536 to $86,356 pro rata rates (comprising Salary of $68,053 to $72,972 pro rata rates, plus Superannuation and Leave Loading).
