Opportunity to be part of a sector leading program

Western Sydney University has established a sector-leading program to strengthen career pathways for its casual academic staff by creating the equivalent of 150 full time positions in the next three years. The WSU decasualisation program will also play a significant role in reducing the level of insecure work in the Australian higher education sector.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to continue teaching, while also developing a research portfolio and contributing to the University through governance activities at the School and/or University level.

Eligibility

Successful candidates will be subject to a two-year confirmation period and must:

  • have been engaged by WSU as a casual academic for at least 2 teaching sessions during the past 24 months; and
  • hold or have submitted all requirements for a PhD or other relevant Level 10 AQF qualification; and
  • not have previously held an ongoing position with an Australian Higher Education Institution; and
  • be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident of Australia or have full, unrestricted working rights at the time of application.

School of Medicine

The School of Medicine has a commitment to an academic focus that is contemporary, interdisciplinary, research‐intensive, community engaged and founded upon a set of values that support improving the health of all, but in particular the most disadvantaged in our communities.

Since 2021 the Joint program in Medicine with Charles Sturt University has provided us with a robust partnership to further contribute to end to‐end medical training in order to enhance rural medical workforce.

We strive to train high quality Medical and higher degree graduates, particularly in areas where local and future needs are significant and growing rapidly. We strive to be a first preference medical school and thereby attract the highest quality applicants for Medicine, especially from the local area. We are proud of our contribution through teaching and service through the COVID-19 pandemic.

The School is focused on ensuring that our graduates are ready to embark on their internships and prepared to engage in lifelong learning throughout their medical careers.
Our partnership with the Local Health Districts highlights a dual aim of attracting current and future medical leaders to the region and in turn improving the provision of health care to the Community of Western Sydney.

The Role

A substantial part of the role involves teaching, including the development, design and delivery of innovative and engaging teaching materials.  You will also be allocated time to develop your research portfolio and have the opportunity to be mentored in your research by Senior academic staff within the University.  In addition, you will be expected to participate in administrative and governance related activities.

To be successful in the role, you will need to demonstrate excellence in teaching and a high level of energy and commitment to further developing a research profile that is fresh and relevant to the particular discipline.
