As a Public Places Officer, you'll have the chance to contribute to the maintenance of our awesome, safe, and vibrant university campus. No two days will be the same as you embark on a journey filled with diverse tasks and exciting challenges.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Coordinator of Waste and Recycling as well as our Waste Contractors to guarantee the efficient delivery of waste and recycling services across the University. Additionally, you'll play a key role in supporting our grounds staff to maintain the campus at a high standard and when required, assist the Place Activation program in ensuring our campus remains vibrant and engaging.


In this role, you will:
  • Assisting the Coordinator and Contractors to ensure effective waste and recycling services are provided on campus.
  • Monitoring, reviewing and reporting on Waste and Recycling contractor performance.
  • Reporting to contractors of any refuse problem and arrange additional disposal units.
  • Advising and liaising with external couriers to ensure that they deliver items to the appropriate person or building.
  • Providing customer service and giving advice to staff on deliveries and follow up for lost or missing items.
  • Safely operating materials handling equipment and ensure the vehicles are kept clean and serviceable.
  • Ensuring that grounds and pathways are maintained to a high level (eg Outdoor furniture cleaned, moving furniture, event set up).
We are looking for (the ideal candidate):
  • Relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • An ability to organise, prioritise and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • The ability to work autonomously and effectively as a team member.
  • The capacity to cope effectively with pressure and sustain high levels of effort and energy.
  • Forklift Licence and previous experience (desired although training is provided).
  • Drivers License (C Class) is required.
As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered. Only in limited situations will visa sponsorship situations be considered.
