This is a fantastic opportunity be part of the Defence Trailblazer for Concept to Sovereign Capability - a collaborative partnership between the University of Adelaide and UNSW.

The Proto-Lab Network Manager is an exciting role which will be responsible for developing and activating the existing network of facilities, equipment and capabilities to support the technical development of innovations that will directly impact the capabilities of the Australian Defence Forces. This role will leverage the universities and our partners’ capabilities to accelerate technology development and commercialisation through the technology development pipeline. This role will manage various projects across SA, NSW and ACT and will report to the Portfolio Manager, Innovation.

Coupled with technical knowledge, we are looking for an individual who has exceptional interpersonal skills and a standout communicator who can clearly convey ideas and information whilst demonstrating excellence. The successful candidate will enjoy working with a supportive and high performing team, managing multiple priorities at one time and meeting deadlines.

This role will include regular interstate travel and/or potentially international travel. This role can be located at either Adelaide, Sydney or Canberra.

To be successful you will need:

  • Demonstrated experience in technical, mechanical or industrial workshop environment.
  • Extensive project management skills and experience, including the ability to plan, implement and coordinator complex projects to meet objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a product through various stages of prototyping.
  • Strong knowledge and extensive application of design thinking and rapid prototyping methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high level of autonomy, and a highly developed sense of initiative, to exercise judgement and problem solving.
  • Advanced level of computer literacy with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications and relevant software (i.e. Slack).
  • Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.

Experience in Australian Defence Force or Australian Defence Industry is desired but not essential.

Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate qualifications (preferably in Engineering/Design) or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

The successful candidate may be required to hold or attain an Australian government security clearance.
