About the team

The University of Western Australia (UWA) has a range of student equity and access programs that are located within Student Life including:

    • The Girls in Engineering (GiE) outreach program inspires female students to take advantage of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) study and the career pathways available in this area
    • Aspire UWA works with 70 partner schools and communities in regional Western Australia and Perth to raise aspirations for tertiary education
    • The Western Australian Children’s University Partnership works in partnership with primary schools in Perth and regional WA to support students underrepresented in higher education and encourage lifelong learning
    • Fairway UWA is an academic support program for Year 12 students who are high achievers aiming for university and are experiencing financial disadvantage

The UWA Girls in Engineering (GiE) program specifically aims to demystify what engineering means, break stereotypes about women in STEM fields and increase female participation in STEM and Engineering. Through hands-on in school workshops and on-campus events, students explore real-life applications of STEM and connect with industry representatives and experts. GiE works closely with the School of Engineering and the Brand, Marketing and Recruitment (BMR) division to support the strategic marketing and recruitment objectives of the program.

About the opportunity

As the appointee you will under general direction, contribute to the delivery of the Girls+ in Engineering (GiE) program and outreach activities to high schools. You will implement program objectives by providing support in the delivery of school-based workshops and information sessions, community-based activities, and on-campus events for equity outreach programs. You will also provide a high level of marketing, administration and event support, with a particular focus on tailoring outreach efforts for the targeted demographic, engaging the next generation of engineers and encouraging study in Engineering and STEM more broadly at UWA.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent competency
  • Substantial relevant project and event support and administrative experience
  • Highly developed written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with experience facilitating key relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Highly developed organisational skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities and to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Western Australian school system and entry pathways to university including ATAR and alternative pathways
  • Ability to work independently, show initiative, problem solve and work productively as part of a team
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to equity and diversity and the issues relating to successful transition to university
