About the team

The Student Equity and Success teams facilitate a high-quality student experience focused on access and support for students, both academic and cocurricular activities that enrich an inclusive student experience, including the development of a dedicated first year experience. The Equity and Success Team is responsible for the oversight of the Student Access and Participation Framework which, through local ownership and accountability, the University community seeks to empower all students to aspire to, achieve and thrive at The University of Western Australia.

The University of Western Australia (UWA) has a range of student equity and access programs that are located within Student Life including:

    • The Children’s University WA Partnership (CUWAP) works in partnership with primary schools in Perth and regional WA to support students underrepresented in higher education and encourage lifelong learning
    • The Girls in Engineering (GiE) outreach program inspires female students to take advantage of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) study and the career pathways available in this area
    • Aspire UWA works with 70 partner schools and communities in regional Western Australia and Perth to raise aspirations for tertiary education
    • Fairway UWA is an academic support program for Year 12 students who are high achievers aiming for university and are experiencing financial disadvantage

The Children’s University WA Partnership (CUWAP) works with primary schools in Perth and regional Western Australia, to support students underrepresented in higher education to access and participate in extra-curricular learning opportunities and become lifelong learners from an early age. This is achieved through partnerships with schools, communities and local learning destinations. In WA, CUWAP is jointly delivered by The University Western Australia, Edith Cowan University (ECU), and Children’s University Australasia & Africa (CUAA).

About the opportunity

As the appointee you will, under limited direction, work with the Coordinator, (Children’s University), and colleagues to implement program objectives, by providing support in the delivery of school based workshops and information sessions, community based activities and on-campus events for equity outreach programs. You will also be involved in running graduation ceremonies, supporting overnight camps for students and will be expected to travel to regional centres. 

About you

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant degree or demonstrated equivalent competency
  • Substantial relevant project and event support and senior administrative experience
  • Highly developed written, verbal and interpersonal skills, including experience in liaison and facilitation of key relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Highly developed organisational skills and demonstrated ability to monitor time and resources, to meet deadlines and to work effectively within set guidelines
  • Proficiency in a range of computing skills including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet and email
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Western Australian school system and entry pathways to university
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse problems and work proactively
  • Ability to work independently, show initiative and work productively as part of a team
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to equity and diversity and contemporary issues facing students and their families from equity target groups

Note: Provision of a Current National Police Clearance, current “C” class driver’s licence and current Working with Children Check will be required for the successful applicant.
