About the Office of the Provost
Led by the Provost, the Office of the Provost supports achievement of the vision and objectives for education and community contained in the Advancing Melbourne strategy . The Office of the Provost portfolio sits alongside other divisions (Research, International, Strategy & Culture) within Chancellery.

About the Role
As a Project Manager, you will work within the broader Office of the Provost team to design, plan and manage major strategic projects, with a focus on projects from the teaching and learning portfolio. You will project manage the design and implementation of strategic initiatives and become a subject matter expert in the relevant areas. You will develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including senior executives, academics, and professional staff from across the University.

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Manage the design and implementation of strategic projects, including ideation, consultation, planning, monitoring, and reporting procedures

  • Conduct desktop research, benchmarking and other analyses as required to develop high quality project documentation and develop a deep understanding of projects

  • Manage project stakeholders and collaborate with the broader Office of the Provost team to ensure that project deliverables are produced, and milestones are met.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a collaborative team that is at the centre of setting the strategic direction for the University. You’ll work in a space where you can enable that direction with your own creative approach to support the successful design and delivery of strategy projects. You’ll quickly gain exposure to the breadth of the University’s teams, services and strategies, and high achievers will be well-placed to progress within Chancellery or other areas of the University.

About You
You will be a motivated self-starter, who shows initiative and takes ownership of your projects. You’ll have strong conceptual and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. Rather than a highly structured approach to project management, your approach will be adaptive, creative and stakeholder focused. Your excellent judgement and ability to anticipate project and stakeholders' needs and plan accordingly, will set you up for success in this role. You’ll take ownership of your projects and regularly zoom back and forth between the detail of a project and the bigger, strategic vision for the work.

Ideally, you will further have:

  • A tertiary qualification or equivalent experience

  • Experience managing successful projects, preferably in a teaching and learning, higher education or public policy setting

  • Exceptional writing skills, showing flexibility across a range of purposes, audiences and styles, as well as strong attention to detail

  • Demonstrated ability to develop positive and productive relationships with colleagues at different levels of seniority

  • Ability to critically evaluate information; reconcile conflicts; analyse, interpret and generate insights from data and use this information to guide decision-making

Please note: To be considered for this role you must have current valid work rights for Australia.
