The Role

Reporting to the Construction Manager, Regional you will manage highly complex new build, refurbishment and infrastructure projects within the Infrastructure and Property Group and be responsible for coordinating, directing and supervising internal staff, external consultants and contractors to ensure effective completion of allocated projects.

The Infrastructure and Property Group is responsible for the delivery of infrastructure projects, new buildings and large-scale refurbishments which are planned, designed and constructed to meet Deakin’s long-term needs. As Project Manager, you will hold responsibility for overseeing the design, procurement, construction, commissioning and operational readiness of a portfolio of projects.

This is a Two-year fixed term opportunity with a starting salary of $100,289 per annum + 17% superannuation (HEW level 8). Based at Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus with occasional travel between campuses as required.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Manage briefings, schematic design, design development, tender, construction, commissioning and operational readiness stages of various medium to large scale, high level complexity University projects.
  • Ensure design solutions comply with the brief, campus planning guidelines and masterplans, University strategic plans, ‘Design Standards for Facilities’, Deakin Access Standards and other University policies and procedures and building regulations and standards.
  • Prepare comprehensive project briefs determining project objectives and scope and consult with internal and external stakeholders and users to establish needs and functional requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring the change management process is documented throughout projects and lead project teams to ensure successful handover of projects to meet University operational requirements.
  • Lead and manage projects to ensure innovative building design solutions, estimate costs, ensure all relevant tender procedures are adhered to
  • Manage the preparation of contract documentation, obtain project approvals from all project stakeholders throughout the project and provide regular project reports as required.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Significant experience in project management of new build and refurbishment capital infrastructure projects, ideally within the Tertiary Education sector.
  • Established track record of delivering projects on budget and program, including broad experience with different styles of construction project procurement and delivery.
  • Experience in managing projects of high complexity and coordinating external consultants and contractors to achieve defined project objectives.
  • Capacity to organise and plan, and to meet rigid and conflicting demands and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to produce clear and accurate communications that are appropriate for their intended audience.
  • A construction Industry Training Card (White Card / Red Card)
