3 year fixed term position
Wirltu Yarlu is responsible for engaging with and recruiting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as well as providing support to students during their time at the University of Adelaide. They provide culturally appropriate support and academic mentoring to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and support them to access tertiary education through various pathway programs, including Marni Wingku, the Karnkanthi Indigenous Education Program, and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Access Pathway. Wirltu Yarlu also supports the broader University to better understand Indigenous cultures and histories through the delivery of the Indigenous Knowledges Major and employment of Cultural Advisors.
The Project Manager, Aboriginal Research Strategy is responsible for managing the successful implementation of the University’s Aboriginal Research Strategy, Yuringkarninthi. Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement), with a strong working relationship with the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research), the Project Manager will work closely with faculties, departments and units across the University, relevant research and student support committees and working groups, external and industry based Higher Degree by Research (HDR) stakeholders, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and staff to ensure that the goals of the Yuringkarninthi are achieved within the strategy’s lifetime 2022 - 2025.
To be successful you will need:
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing Indigenous-focused strategies, and a high-level knowledge of the factors impacting on Indigenous research priorities and Higher Degree by Research participation in South Australia and Nationally
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with experience in the creation and presentation of high-quality publications and documents
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, confident presentation, approachability, and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals.
- High level of understanding and awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, and issues, and demonstrated ability to engage key Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders
