Flinders University is recognised as a leader in rural and remote health professional education and is committed to developing and supporting a rural and remote health workforce. To that end, a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, immersion experiences and placements are supported within the discipline of Rural and Remote Health in our campuses across South Australia and the Northern Territory.
The University Department of Rural Health (UDRH) implements education and scholarship programs for the nursing and allied health workforce education pipeline in the Northern Territory. This includes but is not limited to the development and implementation of allied health and nursing education specific to recruiting and retaining a nursing and allied health workforce, across the continuum of learning including the implementation of entry-to-practice education, professional development, post graduate education and training and achieving the work integrated learning (placements) and course content deliverables of the Rural Health Multi-Disciplinary Training (RHMT) program.
Under broad direction from the Director University Department of Rural Health (NT), the Program Manager will be responsible for the oversight of systems and management of administrative operations associated with multidisciplinary/interprofessional student teaching and learning activities in rural and remote health offered in the Northern Territory, including the day-to-day management of business, projects and partnerships. This includes administrative oversight of the delivery of the UDRH RHMT objectives and rural education and placements for students.
The Program Manager will be responsible for providing professional leadership of the administration teams in all Northern Territory UDRH sites to ensure cohesion, continuity and best practice, and in collaboration with Flinders Rural and Remote Health, College staff and the Program Administrators in Flinders South Australia.
The position will be responsible for monitoring KPI requirements and preparing reports for the Flinders Rural & Remote Executive and other stakeholders as required. In addition, they will be responsible for working closely with academic staff and Community Engagement Officers to provide administrative support for maintaining relationships with primary health care centres, hospitals and clinical supervisors across the NT.
The Program Manager will be required to supervise an administrative team located across the geographical footprint of Rural and Remote Health NT.
The position is situated at the Flinders Centre for Remote Health campus in Alice Springs. The incumbent will be required to regularly travel to other RRH campus locations.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Program Manager, Rural and Remote Health is accountable for:

  • Effectively managing the oversight of systems, delivery of programs and associated projects within the Rural and Remote Health Education UDRH Programs in the Northern Territory.

  • Coordinating projects that focus on the development of systems, to create efficient workflow practices across Rural and Remote Health Education UDRH Programs in the Northern Territory.

  • Managing, leading and providing strategic direction for a team of service-oriented multidisciplinary student administration professionals, including planning and allocating staff resources, developing, coaching and mentoring employees and managing performance to deliver high quality services to ensure the successful delivery of the Rural and Remote Health Education UDRH Programs in the Northern Territory.

  • Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with College based student and professional administration and support teams.

  • Providing support to senior academic staff to develop education and placement opportunities, strengthening existing and exploring new stakeholder partnerships that are fit for the context of the Northern Territory.

  • Providing high level executive support and advice to the Director Rural and Remote Health Education UDRH in the Northern Territory, and the Executive more broadly. This will include but are not limited to:

- Preparing submissions, working papers and reports.

- Preparing high quality and accurate statistical reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

- Contributing to Flinders Rural and Remote strategic planning.

- Providing advice on relevant governance as it relates to program operations.

- Working with Community Engagement and Communications Officers to establish and implement marketing strategies to promote training programs, including website content management.

- Providing quality management coordination and administration with particular reference to systems and processes with interpretation, promulgation, and implementation of University policies.

  • Assisting and advising the Manager Rural and Remote Health NT in the oversight of business processes, and where relevant working with South Australian counterparts for the benefit of the entire footprint of Flinders Rural and Remote Health.

  • Representing the NT and/or Flinders Rural and Remote Health on internal and external committees and working parties as required.

  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the role as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.

Key Position Capabilities

  • Relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent combination of experience and/or education and/or training.

  • Demonstrated experience in strategic and business project planning and program implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and quality assurance.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and motivating a team of geographically dispersed service-oriented professionals to deliver high quality services.

  • Demonstrated high-level analytical, verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated capacity to respond to enquiries, interpret and apply policy and procedure, draft correspondence and high-quality executive reports for internal and external stakeholders, manage program budgets and relevant financial processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, exercise judgment and work collaboratively with stakeholders and colleagues.

  • High-level organisational skills, including demonstrated ability in problem solving, priority setting and working to deadlines with high quality outcomes, apply attention to detail and relate tasks to the wider context.

  • Demonstrated ability to project manage specific and ad-hoc projects.

  • Identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person (desirable ). Demonstrated relevant knowledge and management experience within a rural or remote University environment (desirable).
