The Melbourne Accelerator Program (MAP)

MAP is one of the flagship entrepreneurship programs at the University of Melbourne, and is part of a rapidly developing entrepreneurial ecosystem around the University which has achieved national and international recognition. The entrepreneurial experiences which are made available to students and alumni of the University through MAP have been recognised as an integral part of the Melbourne experience.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for those passionate about entrepreneurship to support the development of startup teams and provide them the resources needed to achieve their goals. You will have the opportunity to influence strategic initiatives and operations in a role that enhances startup teams’ experiences and delivers real community impact.

Reporting to the MEC Director of Programs, The Program Manager, MAP is responsible for leading all aspects of MAP’s startup Accelerator Program. The role ensures that the progress of participants is accelerated by connecting them with the experiences, resources and benefits associated with this world-class entrepreneurship program and increases their opportunity to achieve lasting success.

The role builds and maintains strong long-term relationships with startup ecosystem leaders, mentors, potential investors, channel partners, and university stakeholders. The role is also responsible for designing and implementing the selection process; successfully delivering the accelerator program; and running an effective mentoring program and is vital in developing long-term strategy to ensure the program maintains its status as Australia’s leading university accelerator.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the successful delivery of the Accelerator Program
  • Designing and implementing the MAP startup recruitment and selection process
  • Developing and managing the MAP Mentoring Program
  • Development of strategic relationships to support success of the program


About You

You are a natural people-person with exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and nurture relationships with a broad range of stakeholders. You are highly organised with highly-developed planning skills and a creative approach to problem-solving that enables you to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines. You are an excellent communicator and can produce high-quality written content including reports and documentation as well as deliver engaging public presentations.

You will also have:

  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications with extensive relevant experience and management expertise or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Awareness of the entrepreneurship environment in Melbourne, and a demonstrated understanding of the key elements of the process of forming a new business (preferably obtained through direct experience).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and operationalise strategy.
  • Experience in managing projects, preparing and monitoring budgets, and reporting against budget.
