About the opportunity

The "Education Focused" category is designed for educators known for their exceptional skills in teaching and curriculum design. Professors within this category are recognised both internationally and within the university for their expertise in educational delivery.

The Professor of Urbanism (Education Focused) plays a pivotal role in shaping the University's leadership and strategic goals, enhancing the academic community by promoting a culture of excellence and guiding both staff and students. These professors are deeply involved in driving pedagogical advancements, engaging in scholarly discussions, and influencing educational policies. The Professor of Urbanism (Education Focused) dedicates the majority of their contribution to teaching and teaching-related activities (up to 70%), with a minimum of 20% research and 10% governance, service, and engagement. Additionally, you will mentor junior academics, providing advice on teaching methodologies, education research approaches, publications, and career advancement.

This role requires a passion for representing the whole discipline, and for encouraging and motivating individual and team educators to deliver high quality educational experiences and outcomes.

A key strategic role will be to advise the Head of Discipline on how the Discipline's identity domestically and internationally relates to its educational programs, and to lead on strategic educational issues and projects, such as program review, accreditation, curriculum design, optimal class and degree sizes projections, teaching quality, use of technology, student diversity, and pedagogical innovation.

Within the discipline, the role will work with both individual academics and Program Directors to generate a vibrant educational culture and an outstanding student experience.

The role will also participate in communities of practice with other education-focused roles in the discipline, School, and University. Through engagement with industry and employers, the role will lead understanding and responsiveness to market trends.

The position significantly contributes to University governance, mentoring academic success, and fostering a positive workplace culture that values diversity and collaboration. Additionally, the role includes advancing the university's strategic objectives, engaging with external communities, and leading partnerships that promote educational excellence and policy development on national and international levels.

The Professor of Urbanism (Education Focused) will be recognised internationally as a leading expert in educational design and delivery, with a notable track record for enhancing student outcomes, pioneering educational innovations, and contributing to respected research in the field. They will have fostered deep partnerships with planning and other built environment professions and demonstrated integration of these partnerships into curricula and student learning.

With substantial leadership and management experience in higher education, the Professor of Urbanism (Education Focused) will excel in supervising and mentoring colleagues towards success. Their proven expertise extends from curriculum development to conducting prominent research and fostering an environment conducive to student success.

Term and remuneration

The successful candidate will be offered a continuing position on a full-time basis and will be offered a competitive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
