The School of Medical Sciences is recognised worldwide as one of the leading centres for medical science research and education. With over 100 years of excellence in education, we are proud to be training the next generation of medical scientists who will be leaders in their chosen field of work.

The school's internationally competitive research spans diverse fields, from molecular biomedicine to digital health, addressing complex issues through seven multidisciplinary research themes. These themes, crucial to the Australian and international communities, are supported by partnerships with research institutes, health districts, granting bodies, and philanthropists, enabling impactful outcomes on local and global scales with over $50M annual funding. Concurrently, we boast one of the largest medical science teaching programs globally, educating over 8,000 students annually across various disciplines, integrating innovative curricula with multimodal teaching methods and cutting-edge resources like AI, VR, and industry placements.

We are seeking to appoint an Education Focused Professor of Pathology (Level E). Education Focused positions are designed for educators known for their exceptional skills in teaching and curriculum design.

The Professor of Pathology will contribute to the leadership and strategic direction of the University by participating in collegial governance and decision-making and fostering a culture of excellence through guiding academic staff and students towards success. They will actively contribute to pedagogical innovation, scholarship, academic debate and policy development within the University and beyond.

As a successful candidate you will be expected to dedicate most of your contribution to teaching and teaching-related activities (70%), while also engaging in research (20%) and governance, leadership, and engagement (10%).

Skills, capabilities and experience

The successful candidate will:

  • hold a PhD in a relevant, cognate discipline and an international reputation for outstanding teaching and research.
  • demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of strategic issues within the higher education sector.
  • maintain a broad network of established relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions.
  • have an international reputation as an authority in educational design and delivery, including recognition for achieving improved or consistently excellent student outcomes, educational innovation, educational leadership and/or well-regarded pedagogical or disciplinary research.
  • have a distinguished record of educational excellence, evidenced by contributions to student learning, recognition and innovative practices.
  • have a proven record for obtaining external funding for scholarly activities and research.
  • demonstrate significant experience in leadership and management within the higher education sector, including excellence in supervision and/or mentoring.
  • demonstrated success in leading an academic endeavour from curriculum design to producing leading research and providing g a student enabling environment.

Term and remuneration

The successful candidate will be offered a Full time Continuing position. The successful candidate will be offered a competitive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
