About the opportunity

The School of Economics at the University of Sydney is one of the primary centres for economics in Australia and the broader Asia-Pacific region. School academic staff have varied specialisms and areas of expertise, including theory, macroeconomics, behavioural economics, and econometrics. The School of Economics is located within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, which is ranked 24th in the world and 1st in Australia for Arts and Humanities.

The role of a Professor of Economics (Education Focused) is critical in steering educational leadership and contributing to the strategic planning and setting of educational goals within a university setting. This position encompasses a broad spectrum of responsibilities, including participation in decision-making processes related to educational policies and initiatives and providing mentorship and guidance on teaching methodologies, curriculum development, and career advancement for junior academics. In addition, the role demands active engagement in scholarly activities, particularly in educational research aimed at advancing teaching methodologies, educational technology, and pedagogical approaches within the field of economics. Moreover, this role is responsible for leading industry collaboration and outreach activities, establishing vital connections with industry to secure internship positions for students, and engaging in outreach to amplify the impact of the economics program.

The Professor of Economics (Education Focused) dedicates the majority of their contribution to teaching and teaching-related activities (up to 70%), with a minimum of 20% research and 10% governance, service, and engagement. Additionally, you will mentor junior academics, providing advice on teaching methodologies, education research approaches, publications, and career advancement.

Term and remuneration

This is a full-time, continuing position. The successful candidate will be offered a competitive remuneration package commensurate with the position's responsibilities and the candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
